VideoMining Releases Benchmark Reports from Center Store MegaStudy
Over 200 “Category Benchmark” reports from its recently completed Center Store MegaStudy has been released by VideoMining Corp., the leading provider of in-store intelligence for retailers and consumer packaged goods manufacturers

The MegaStudy is part of an ongoing Grocery Shopper Insights (GSI) program in collaboration with ten leading supermarket chains. The GSI program uses VideoMining’s breakthrough in-store measurement platform in a carefully selected panel of stores. The in-store behavior data from millions of grocery trips, integrated with transaction data, provides unprecedented visibility into the path-to-purchase of grocery shoppers and factors that impact purchase decisions.

The initial results from the MegaStudy at the aggregate department level were shared recently with participating retailers, generating strong interest from them in learning more about individual categories.

“The Benchmark Reports will provide an easy-to-use, affordable way for manufacturers to access the landmark study for insights that are immediately actionable,” said Jeff Friedlaender, President of Shopper Research at VideoMining.

Each report uses powerful new shopper metrics along the “path to purchase” and “moments of truth” to help in understanding a specific aspect of the category shopping process. The reports also use new productivity measures that focus on actionable shopper-centered measures for improving category performance. Sample insights from the report include shopper leakage, size of opportunity, value of traffic and shoppers to the category, and shelf productivity.

“We believe these reports provide a foundational understanding of the category shopping process and can serve as a basis for systematic optimization of the shelf and promotions,” said Rajeev Sharma, Founder and CEO of VideoMining.

Website Coupon Expenditures Increase in First Quarter
Estimated expenditures for website coupons reached $835 million Q1 (January - March) 2013 - an increase of 130% compared to the same period last year across key websites measured by Marx, a Kantar Media Solution.

“Estimated expenditures surged in Q1 2013, indicating that website-based offers are taking on a greater significance for the consumer promotion industry,” said David Hamric, General Manager, Kantar Media Marx. “This increase in Estimated Expenditures included major program types such as digital paperless coupons, which are typically loaded to a loyalty card, and internet print-at-home coupons, which are initially obtained online.

“When this increase in Estimated Expenditures on website-based offers is compared to the reported increase in Free Standing Insert (FSI) activity, it suggests that 2013 will be a very promising year in coupons,” he said.

AFS Technologies Supports Produce Suppliers in Traceability Movement
With the recent announcement that Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores will begin rejecting produce from suppliers who do not comply with Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) guidelines, AFS Technologies is offering further education to growers, distributors and 3PL companies about transitioning operations to PTI compliance standards.  Some industry experts have estimated that 85% of the overall market is not prepared for the PTI requirements set forth by the largest retail chain in the U.S.

To reduce the risk of being rejected by Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores by the January 1, 2014 deadline, organizations should ensure procedures and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) are PTI compliant. AFS Technologies offers AFS WMS software to enable organizations to track inventory expiration dates, eliminate physical inventory errors and improve inventory accuracy and order fulfillment.  Additionally, the upcoming AFS WMS release handles PTI & Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) compliance right out-of-the-box for 3PL companies and distributors.

The PTI launched in 2007 with a vision to achieve supply chain-wide adoption of electronic traceability of every case of produce by developing a standardized industry approach.  As a proud member and active participant of the Produce Traceability Committee and the leading provider of business enterprise software solutions for the Food, Beverage and Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industries, AFS Technologies is at the forefront of the produce traceability movement.

Mobile App for Defense Commissary Now Available
A mobile app developed by Inmar for members of the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) Rewards Card program is now available. This version of the app is for shoppers who use DeCA’s load-to-card digital coupon program who use the iPhone or iPad and is accessible for download at the app store.

The app allows a user to create a new account, access an existing account, select and add coupons to their e-wallet and review “clipped,” redeemed and expired coupons. The app also enables shoppers to locate commissaries worldwide, map a route to a selected commissary and access store information such as phone number and address.

The release of the mobile app is the latest enhancement to the Commissary Rewards Card program - developed and managed by Inmar - that became active worldwide at all 248 DeCA stores in August, 2012. Since the launch of this load-to-card digital coupon program, more than 800,000 rewards cards have been registered by shoppers who have downloaded more than eight million coupons.

“All of us at Inmar are delighted at having contributed to the success of the DeCA Commissary Rewards Card program,” said David Mounts, Inmar CEO. “Not only because we are assisting an important client to build their business through effective delivery of digital promotions, but also because we are helping - if but indirectly -- those who have served, and are serving, our country.”
